For many of us, the boiler is simply something that does a job in the background. Unless something goes wrong, we don’t tend to give it much though. It provides heat and hot water and we return this with an annual service.
But what we don’t always realise is that boilers can become expensive. Take one of our recent Glasgow customers. She had lived in her home for around 20 years and the boiler was about 15 years old. It worked fine and was doing its job. But over the winter, it had a couple of breakdowns and we were finding it difficult to get parts because of the boiler’s age.
We also carried out an assessment and realised it was now a Band G rated boiler – right at the bottom of the scale. When it was new, it was a good rating, but as newer boilers improved on technology, older ones were left behind. This meant that it was wasting a lot of gas and electricity while heating the home.
The customer had also noticed that the radiators in the extension they had added five years ago simply weren’t as warm as other parts of the house. Our assessment discovered that the boiler wasn’t quite powerful enough for the new size of the property.
Our solution was to replace the boiler and upgrade some minor pipes. This meant that the new system effectively heated all parts of the home and because it was Band A rated, there was a good saving on the cost of electricity and gas. The end result – one happy Glasgow boiler replacement customer!
