During the summer, we don’t think about our boilers and heating systems that much. After all, we don’t need heating and as long as there is hot water when we turn on the tap, then everything is good. But summer can be a good time to think about your boiler and heating system, especially late summer when it starts to cool down a little.
Summer is a great time to have your boiler serviced. There are two reasons for this. First, it doesn’t matter that you have a period of no heating while the servicing takes place because you wouldn’t have it on anyway. It is often easier to get a booking with an engineer at a time and date that suits you during the late summer because they are typically not as busy. Once the cooler months come and boilers start to show problems, they will get much busier and therefore the time slots are much more restricted.
Replacing your boiler is also a good job done in late summer if this is what you plan to do. Again, the heating system isn’t needed so you don’t notice its absence. It is still warm outside, so everyone can get out of the way of the dust and mess for a bit while the work goes on. And some boiler companies even have better deals in the summer when demand is lower.
It is also worth running your boiler periodically during the summer, just to make sure it is working okay. Lots of people leave it until it gets chilly, turn on the boiler and then it breaks down as it is has been sitting unused for months. A quick test by turning up the thermostat periodically can help avoid this problem.
